Herreney Interlaken Building stage II

The Herreney development is located in the Bernese Oberland on the peninsula separating the shipping canal from the Aare River between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The site is located in the municipality of Interlaken, on the border to Unterseen. The project was developed as part of a competition and formally added to the official zoning plans. The first of three stages of construction work began in spring 2017 after relocation of the main "Bödeli" sewage line (dating back to 1912). The competition stipulated that the entire site should be raised by approx. 1.20 m in order to minimise material removal and avoid problems with groundwater levels (on average approx. 2 m lower than the original terrain, or 3.20 m below the finished terrain). In summer 2018, the flood protection project of the Bödeli Water Threshold Cooperation was also completed with a partial renaturation of the Aare River. The first stage, a total of 45 condominiums and 37 rental flats, was completed at the end of 2018.

From the start, construction and the decision to begin detailed planning for the second stage was made dependent on 90% of the first stage being sold or rented out. It was already clear at the end of 2017 that we would soon reach these goals. Accordingly, we submitted the building application for Stage II before the end of 2017. In the procedural programme, a building decision was promised for May 2018. No objections were received and we received the building permit in August 2018. Planned were 74 flats in 9 buildings, including 21 rental flats in 2 courtyard houses. Construction started in spring 2019.
