In October 2001, W. Hauenstein Immobilen AG purchased a total of 54,825 m² of building land in Hohmad. The aim of the development was to create a beautiful multigenerational settlement with heart and a place for experiences. In 2007, the third construction phase of the Hohmadpark development in Thun was completed with 41,000 m² of gross floor area. Over the course of eight years, more than 270 apartments and houses, over 8,000 m² of commercial space, 61 apartments for senior citizens and 55 rooms for the SILEA foundation for the disabled and the Hohmadpark transitional home were built. Since its completion, the Hohmadpark development has housed over 700 residents and created approximately 80 full-time jobs. For the construction 800 man-years were spent, respectively the construction site has constantly employed 100 people on average for 8 years. During the construction period, however, we also lost dear people and comrades-in-arms: on March 10, 2005 Walter Hauenstein (born May 24, 1930) and on November 3, 2007 our accountant Hansruedi Rutschi. The Hohmadpark development is dedicated to their memory.

Before the motorway was built, Frutigenstrasse was the main artery to the Oberland. After 1930, development as a residential district began. Single-family and multi-family houses of various architectural eras characterise the district. The Hohmad quarter is now home to around 3,700 people and is well-connected via excellent transportation options. The proximity to the city and extensive shopping in the neighbourhood are highly valued by the local population. The WiA, the Hohmad Clinic and the Hohmadpark development with the Burehuus Restaurantare especially well-known.
The Hohmadquartier is one of 11 official quarters belonging to the city of Thun. The city was divided into specific neighbourhoods in order to give residents and companies the opportunity to identify with their neighbours and to actively participate in the development of "their" neighbourhood. The beautiful alpine town of Thun offers countless activities, all easy to access. The town is cheerful and bustling; authentic and honest. Discover the vibrant city with numerous cafés and squares - directly beside the Aare River - or in secluded hidden corners. Thun is an ideal starting point for a variety of excursions and experiences around Lake Thun - a paradise for water sports enthusiasts, hikers, bikers and winter sports fans.
